The Latest from VEA

Our voices have been heard, and our ideas have been shared! Over the last several weeks, the VEA coordinated eight strategy-sharing sessions with Virginia’s Secretary of Education Atif Qarni and his staff as state leaders began looking toward the 2020-21 school year.

These discussions gave our members unprecedented input and influence at a time when numerous options are still on the table—and during a time of unmatched health risk in our public schools. Incredibly important decisions must be made, and you clearly spoke truth to power, as the people who will actually be teaching and protecting our children in the year ahead.

VEA staff compiled the suggestions and recommendations that came out of those sessions into a report, which is now in the hands of not only Secretary Qarni, but also State Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane and every member of the Governor’s School Reopening Work Group.
